Dear Blogging Pals of Patricia Volonakis Davis:
My name is Margot Van Riper and I am Patricia Volonakis Davis’ author liasion. I’m taking over Patricia’s blog space today to announce with great pleasure the publication of her book, Harlot’s Sauce: A Memoir of Food, Family, Love, Loss and Greece.
If you are a fan of Patricia’s blog, we thought you might be tickled to know about this publication and that Patricia has acknowledged her VOX neighbors and writers on Harlots’ Sauce Radio e-magazine in her book’s dedication page.
If you would like any more details about this memoir, or updates on Patricia’s work, please visit her new interactive website. Currently we’ve posted some fun videos on the site which include Sicilian and Greek dancing, a young Greek ‘stud’ trying to book a date, and how Italians use donkeys to tell time. In November, upon release of the book to bookshops, ‘outtake chapters’ from her memoir will also be posted, as well as lots of information about Greece, including some fascinating history, current events, and practical tips for travel. (You’ll even learn how to catch a cab in Athens and obtain a Greek divorce if you are a non-national!) There will also be recipes for foods which are described in the memoir, and a video of Patricia herself cooking- you guessed it– Harlot’s Sauce! (Salsa Puttanesca)
We hope you will read Harlot’s Sauce and be inspired by it.

When Patricia, the Italian-American, marries Gregori, the “gorgeous” Greek, she spends almost two decades in a sometimes tragic, sometimes uproarious pursuit of ‘Happily-Ever-After’. In a last-ditch effort to make their relationship work, Patricia moves with Gregori to Greece, where he insists he must be in order to be happy. Once there, she discovers that though she might not save her marriage, she just might save herself. We follow the narrator, as she describes in self-deprecating and side-splitting detail how growing up first-generation, blue-collar, Italian-American influenced her choice of mate, the naiveté of her perceptions throughout their courtship, her hapless, yet hopeful years amongst her new Greek relatives, and her eventual self-actualization brought about by the intriguing time spent in her adopted country — Greece. With vivid descriptions of life in modern-day Greece, this memoir is both a tasty treat and an exhilarating sail on the Hellenic seas through xenophobia, dysfunctional family units, religious ravings, obsessive protocols, political disorder, European football, and fabulous food.As the Italians say, Buon Appetito! (Good Appetite!) As the Greeks say, Kalo Taxidi! (Good Voyage!)
Available on amazon.com, amazon.ca, and amazon.co.uk, www.bookpassage.com and other fine online booksellers sites. Released to bookshops and retail outlets November 1, 2008.

Yay! Party! Champagne! Woot!
Wow congratulations! 🙂
Woohoo! That's so exciting! Congrats! (Can we request free autographed copies? hehe)
Yaaaaay!!! Congrats!!! **high five**
Funny….I was just thinking of this in the past few days and wondering when it was going to be coming out and I was going to ask you! (I must have felt the vibes!!) I can't wait to read it. How do I get a signed copy?
Exciting! Can't wait to to read it!
Congratulations Patricia! I will buy the book next month, since I am close to my budget fo this month. I look foward to reading it!
Hurray! Congratulations to you.
Thank you, Mello. It's pretty exciting, I must admit. It took over three years.
Really? What part? I wonder if we have any acquaintances in common…How are feeling, by the way? I have to come over and visit your bog. It's been a bit hectic here.
Yes, but it would be more fun if we could have it together for real rather than virtually….
Feeling good… almost ready to pop! I'm living in Wantagh. Didn't grow up here, grew up in Manhattan but moved to great neck 5 years ago and to wantagh 3 years ago when we bought our house. I like being so close to Jones Beach… in the summer that's priceless!
I so agree that's it 's greatto be near the beach.. And I love Wantagh. It's got such a nice look too it. I grew up in Deer Park and North Babylon. For about a year I lived all the way out in Manorville, too. Long Island is very pretty. Unfortunately for me , it holds very bad memoires, so I rarely visit and I donlt think I appreciate it as much as I should be cause of my experiences there. Nonetheless, the best seafood restaurants are out there, for sure and I always enjoyed riding out to the pumpkin and duck farms with my son when he was a little boy.
So sorry about the bad memories. I have a place like that too. 🙁 Wantagh is nice. I live in the woods so the streets are very winding with a lot of trees and space between houses. In the summer, we can smell the ocean, it's good… except for the property tax. That stinks! I had a friend in Deer Park but haven't been out to Manorville or N. Babylon… same train line though!
I knonw the taxes out there are high, but I hav eto tellyou, I remember the schools as being excellent. It is a great place to raise a child, too, BB, Your baby wil love it. There's so much to do with a child out there.
Thank you very much, Meru! I'm really excited…
Thank you, Steph. Oddly enough, the author gets only six free copies. I kept one, gave the others to my kids and in-laws. In fact, I did order some as gifts to close friends and had to order them on amazon myself! ; (
Thanks for this comment, hon. It's very gracious and very supportive. I just told Stephel I got six copies for myself from the publisher. It's the way it's done. Maybe someday not too far into the future, we can meet up and I can sign the book then.
I hope you'll be next! ; )
Thank you, Lucy. That's very kind. Let me know if you enjoy it. I'll be anxious to hear your thoughts….
That's not nearly enough copies. Oh well! Overstock.com usually has prices that are comparable to Amazon as well
I have to check that site. I didn't know they had books.
I don't know how big their book selection is, but they do have some
Oh, I know you're glad, congratulations! If they put you on tour and you go thru VA, I'll be in line with my copy….
Beaner, you have no idea what it means to a new author to hear someone they like say that…Thanks a bunch, I mean it. : )
Congratulations Patricia! Your cover looks very Mamma Mia. 🙂 Hope you get lots of interest in the book.
Thanks Empress, for you Mamma Mia comment! ; ) (I really enjoyed that flick, I'm amazed to say)
I hear that so far people either love the cover or hate it. Kind of interesting….
My favourite part was seeing Pierce Brosnan in Elvis spandex!
Poor old Pierce not much of a singer though, was he? A good sport for giving it a go though!
I actually thought Meryl was far worse. Not even with pro-tools could they get her voice to hit some of those notes in her grand solo. Oh well, I guess she can't be talented in all the arts.
Hey- were Abba songs stuck in your head for like, days after? I started singing one every ten minutes or so (And I'm not such a fan, either) and then my husband begged me to stop because he couldn't get the songs out of his head, then, either. And he hadn't even gone to see the film!
It sounds like a fantastic read. A job well done. I wish you every success with your book, you deserve it.
