Well, it started with a recipe I found on YouTube today, as I was looking for a new one I could make to celebrate #WorldChocolateDay, aka International Chocolate Day. I came across a super easy and delicious-looking one for a Raspberry Chocolate Tart, as prepared by the lovely and vivacious Laura Vitale , of Laura in the Kitchen.
Hmm. What a coincidence. It just so happens that Ms. Vitale is an Italian-American, just like Angela Perotta, one of the main characters in my novel. And what is Angela’s signature dessert which she makes in the fictitious Secret Spice Cafe? Wouldn’t you know it? — It just so happens to be Raspberry Chocolate Truffle Tarts.
Now in the novel, Angela’s recipe is much more complex than Laura’s. But that’s because Laura’s is made for women like me, who cook for a family, while Angela is the dessert chef at an upscale restaurant housed aboard the magnificent RMS Queen Mary. The Mary is a vintage Cunard ocean liner that is now permanently docked as a floating hotel and museum in Long Beach, CA. (By the way, that part of the story is true. In fact, if you click on the link above, you can actually see the Queen Mary. She is a favorite tourist destination in Long Beach) The Mary also happens to be haunted, but that’s for another post.
I came across Laura’s video of her recipe, and watched it several times. She made making this recipe look easy to prepare and fun. It struck me as interesting how much like the character of Angela in my story she is. Warm-hearted, personable, and of course, passionate about cooking. So I just had to share her recipe for Raspberry Chocolate Tart here:
